Goatee beard is as you know a popular facial hair style that simply involves hair on the chin but not on the cheeks. Now, there are many ways you can tweak a goatee so that it suits you best. And that is exactly what this article is about.
Who should go for a Goatee?
There is no specific rule about who can or cannot flaunt a goatee. That said, given the differences in facial structures across the globe, there are some face shapes that benefit more than others from a Goatee Beard.
- A square face structure often complements a Goatee Beard, owing to the clean exposure of the jawline. Brad Pitt is a testimony to that statement.
- An oval face can also make a good use of a Goatee. Not only does it match the roundness of an oval face, a Goatee also helps define the outline, enhancing the facial structure.
Given an already lengthy face, rectangle face shapes usually don’t benefit much from a Goatee Beard. It adds more length to the face, creating a disproportionate look.

Types of Goatee Beard
It’s clear that clean cheeks + chin hair = Goatee Beard. But that is a very basic definition of the style, which excludes its multiple variations. One type of it is where there is a light stubble behind the goatee on your jawline. One where the chin hair connects to a moustache, & another where the chin hair is not connected to a moustache.

Classic Goatee
In its very original form, a goatee is simply plain chin hair with the rest of the facial territory cleanly shaven.

The most common goatee style, the Circle beard, is basically a connected mustache and chin hair creating a circular shape.
Van Dyke
A distinguished goatee style, the Van Dyke, features a disconnected mustache and chin hair combination.
This combination, as styles by the former 007, Pierce Brosnan, depicts sharpness and is known for its T-shape formation.
Balbo Beard
A combination of disconnected moustache & extended chin-hair, Balbo beard is a wider version of a Goatee. Its main characteristic is the density & width of chin hair which other Goatee styles lack.

Anchor Beard
An anchor-like shape is formed by a moustache, soul patch, and chin hair, hence the name Anchor Beard.

The Extended Goatee refers to a full Circle beard with a backdrop of beard stubble. This style keeps the focus on the Goatee while also giving a fuller look owing to the beard stubble in the background.

Maintaining a Goatee Beard
Given the minimal involvement of facial hair on parts other than your chin, a Goatee should be regularly groomed to exude a sophisticated look. You can definitely experiment & keep facial hair on the other parts of your face, say like the cheeks. But the catch, again, is that it should be properly groomed. Using a good quality trimmer, keep the edges defined, partitions enhanced & length maintained, if you wish to bring the best out of a Goatee Beard.
